New figures are starting to paint a dangerous picture for the brave men and women who run into a disaster when others are running out. More and more of the UK fire & rescue who train and risk their lives for a noble pursuit of saving lives are finding themselves using cranes to move obese people like cargo.

There were 944 incidents where people needed help in 2015/16, up a third on the 709 in 2012/13.

That’s almost 20 incidents per each of the 50 fire departments in the UK. On average each department has to haul a morbidly obese person out of their home because they can’t leave on their own. It has become so bad that in 2012 fire and rescue services had to add “bariatric rescues” to their reports as this was no longer the occasional incident. With a near 20% increase year over year trend could soon become a weekly, if not daily occurence.
With more resources being drained to help fatties who can’t even fit through a door it makes you wonder if someone will be available able to help you in the event of an emergency. I both fear and lament the day a healthy family dies because all resources were focused on shuttling fatties out of their homes with industrial equipment.
