Fat Acceptance continues struggling to become a legitimate issue in the eyes of the world. While they may feel like they are making progress, it quickly gets dismessed when their leaders die tragically young.
In an attempt to lure in the young and impressionable fat acceptance is now being taught at colleges. I don’t mean the standard SJW tumblr logic that can be found in the halls, & more likely the cafeterias but as curriculum. The course description at one school sounds like what we can expect from twitter if they ever removed the 140 character limit.
Examines body weight, shape, and size as an area of human difference subject to privilege and discrimination that intersects with other systems of oppression based on gender, race, class, age, sexual orientation, and ability. Employs a multi-disciplinary approach spanning the behavioral sciences and humanities. Frames weight-based oppression as a social justice issue, exploring forms of activism used to counter weightism perpetuated throughout various societal institutions.
I imagine their syllabus will be comprised of tumblr and blog posts. There will be little or no mention of the health impact either. A similar class in Maryland
regurgitates the same rhetoric.
It should come as no surprise that none of these studies want to focus on the health and outcome of this pro-obese mindset. They won’t mention how the biggest names and bodies in fat acceptance can’t manage to live to retirement age. They also refuse to acknowledge the tragic death of younger obese people while trying to celebrate their fat idols without ever wondering why none of them are still alive.
Its painfully clear that these classes are more about mental gymnastics and feeling good than any actual science. I wonder how long this trend will last when most of the professors and *leaders in the field” won’t live past their 50’s.
