The National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance lost another on this month. The organization is no stranger to early deaths as their president Jason Docherty died of pneumonia last year at the age of 46. Just 5 days into the new year the Fat Acceptance lost another oversized advocate, at the age of 55.
Elizabeth Morris Fisher died of “unexpected causes”. Which isn’t unheard of when you live in a bubble where requiring a scooter to get around is normal. I am guessing these unexpected causes were weight related but as a prominent fat activist she probably thought the doctors were opressing her with their “medical science”.
Elizabeth’s blog was mostly comprised of complaints for bigger desks and seat belts. In true fat acceptance fashion she wouldn’t accept that she was too big it was the rest of the world that was just making things too small. I wonder if she would think dying before retirement age would be considered a fitting final act of spreading awareness about obesity.
Elizabeth’s memory will live on as her friends are building a new legacy for her. They aren’t spreading awareness about the low life expectancy of the obese or the myriad of health issues many obese people suffer from. They have opted to open a GoFundMe to help fatties get scooters like the one Elizabeth loved so much.
